Edgestar 43qt fridge/freezer

Got my new Edgestar 110V/12V portable refrigerator / freezer today. Didn't do much other than unpack it, but here are the pics. As I get some real-world experience with it, I'll post that info here as well.

It was well packaged in a double box, and I posted some pics in my Gallery of the box and packaging it came in if you're interested.

Re: Edgestar 43qt fridge/freezer

Thank you Herb for the pictures their site doesn't give many details.
I have 2 questions:
- Do you know what kind of compressor is monted inside?
- The inside floor is made of the same metal sheet as the inside walls (as visible on your pictures) and sealed at each corner/edge?

Re: Edgestar 43qt fridge/freezer

According to someone over at Expedition Portal, the compressor is a Matsushita (Panasonic) brand. I have not verified that.

The floor of the fridge appears to be the same material as the walls. I'll have to check on the seam sealing. That thought crossed my mind yesteray, but I ran out of time to check it.

Herb and others as well. Do you think the lid on this type of fridge/freezer is strong enough to sit on? You might have someone make a cushion that could snap on. Just thinking down the road a little.

Thanks,
Steve

Re: Edgestar 43qt fridge/freezer

Some additional pics (thumbnails). The seams appear to be sealed with a very thin silicone bead. I may "improve" that seal.

Steve, I've always been leery of using any ice chest as a seat, for fear of damaging the seal. FWIW, I think the Edgestar is sturdy enough, but I would have the same concern about the seal on it, that I do with any ice chest.

Andrew, I don't see a name brand on the compressor, but I included a pic of the label.

Herb,
Thank you for all the information.
With the prices listed in the other thread, looks like a good deal. One more to think about.

Re: Edgestar 43qt fridge/freezer

I'd like to have a backup for the van and was thinking of the smallest version. I could probably use it as storage when not in use if that's practical...or is it?

Re: Edgestar 43qt fridge/freezer

My family has been using fridges and coolers as storage containers since before I was born. It wasn't until my brother and I first got our SMBs that refrigerators were used as refrigerators and not storage.

Re: Edgestar 43qt fridge/freezer

Hey Herb,
I'm starting to think about a fridge for Hal. It's been a year since you bought the Edgestar. Mind if I ask for a operational update?
Thanks,
Dave

Re: Edgestar 43qt fridge/freezer

and while we're asking...

what was some of your deciding factors on this fridge/freezer over other models out there like ARB, NORCOLD, etc.?
