Re: 2013- Goodbye E Series Ford Vans
Interesting thing about these vans (both the Transit and the smaller Transit Connect) is that in Europe they are really quite cheap, as well as being fuel efficient . Doing a quick internet search reveals that a basic diesel Transit Connect can be had for right around 10K British pounds. That works out to about US$15K. Since they are being sold here in the mid-twenties with a cheaper gas engine, you have to wonder where the additional cost is coming from?
A regular Transit van is actually not much more expensive in the UK, a SWB base model with a diesel is around 11K pounds, or US$18K. A full-on crew cab, LWB, diesel, high-roof costs about US$26k. So it will be very interesting to see what Ford decides to charge for the Transit here when it comes out. The transit is made in Turkey so they really have no excuse for adding an extra 30% to the price they way they seem to have done with the Transit Connect. But since the base model Econoline (with all it's tooling costs long since paid off) sells for $25K I'm guessing we'll see prices at least in that range.
And just to re-kindle the fires of disgust at the Nissan NV, one of the UK van dealer's websites had a range of Nissan vans on display. Google Primastar, NV200 and Interstar to get a sense of what Nissan could have brought us instead of the NV.
Happy Holidays all y'all

A sprinter that's wider and squatter. Still better than Nissan's entry.
Will Chevy be the last recognizable van?

Re: 2013- Goodbye E Series Ford Vans
I just spent about half an hour on the phone with Ford marketing to try to clarify the E-Series' last year of availability.
From the looks of it, Ford should release the 2013 E-Series in September and that should be the last year for it. Keep in mind that this is not 100% sure at this point in time, but it is the latest information Ford marketing has...

Maybe Ford will do a New Coke, Netflix, or Verizon thing and say oops, we were only testing the market.
