The earlier you leave the more pictures you guys can post when you get back But yes it takes a bit longer than the book suggests as Steve posted.

Re: Goler Wash/Barker Ranch/DV Spring 12

Sorry everyone. I am definitely out. Been flat in bed from my vertigo for the past three weeks. Have a great time and take plenty of pictures.

Re: Goler Wash/Barker Ranch/DV Spring 12

Too bad Mac, I was looking forward on meeting you in the flesh. Hope you recover soon.

This may impact the route:
Check out the morning report for Lippencott Mine Road:
http://www.nps.gov/deva/upload/Morning-Report.pdf

Current Road Conditions
Keane Wonder Road ....CLOSED; road and mining area closed to ALL entry due to mine-safety hazards Hunter Mtn. Rd. ............4x4 REQUIRED. Chains may be needed.
Saline Valley (North) .......4x4 high-clearance required.
Saline Valley (South).......Signed CLOSED by Inyo County
Lippincott Rd ................One partial wash out, above lower hairpin curve. Short wheel base vehicles only.
All other roads open and in standard condition.

Thats a tough curve for our big rigs when its in a "normal" condition. I think it takes this route out of the equation. We can check in Furnace Creek, but the Rangers are "overly cautious" and will no doubt say not to attempt it. This news will make my wife Dina very happy.

Re: Goler Wash/Barker Ranch/DV Spring 12

Keep an eye on the road conditions, both paved and not. We've had quite a bit of rain in SoCal today (at least in Ventura), and the DV conditions may have changed significantly.

Thanks all for the weather/road conditions. The nice thing about this DV adventure is that if one route is too hazardous we can pick another. I'm not above turning around either.

Very cool. I'll have to figure out APRS one of these days.

Re: Goler Wash/Barker Ranch/DV Spring 12

Just got home from DV. We had wind, cold, more wind, some great campsites and wonderful time. A few pictures will come later.

Looking forward to seeing all of the pictures. Sorry I missed it. Now I know what it must have felt like for those people who wanted to come to the Valley of Fire Meet and Greet but had to miss it. It's a bummer!
