Javier

Hello.
Anyone here own a van converted by some dude named
Javier from California? It looks like he is doing a conversion
similar to Quadvan and what Salem Kroger did before they
closed shop. He has some videos on Youtube of his conversions.

Re: Javier

I'm "that guy."

I bought the van from Javier on eBay and have been delighted with it. Javier was honest and helpful with us and I trust him. That said, I would highly recommend that you inspect the front end work before purchase. About a week after buying the van I was going down the freeway when shoddy welding on the front end came completely loose and required a $600 welding bill. I detail that on the site I think.

We continue to have allot of fun with the van and it gets more looks than anything I've ever been in, including a Hummer H1 back in the late 90s when they were rare. The Mexicanos love this van!

Re: Javier

You are delighted with his work and would recommend him, yet you had a weld fail on the freeway?

It seems to me that a weld fail on a 4x4 conversion could be fatal and I would be hesitant to suggest someone else do it. Inspecting welds may not be enough to protect yourself. Not everyone can tell a good looking weld from a bad looking one. And not all good looking welds have enough penetration to be secure.

Re: Javier

Javier doesn't do the work. He buys vans and has all the work done by various outfits in Tijuana, thus the van at half the cost.

As you acknowledge, inspecting welds isn't a perfect science and even if it were, I didn't get underneath the van and do it when I bought the thing.

If I were to buy another van from Javier I would know better what to look for and would do a much more thorough inspecting; not because I think he'd hiding anything but because he's outsourcing the work. There's nothing else on the van that wasn't 10/10. The interior upholstery is especially impressive.

I've been thinking about selling this van and doing another, this time with no popup. I'd buy the van, another long E350 but no older than an '08 and just deliver it to him.
